Ely Eliminated From Ohio Candidates

On May 14th The O’Zone reported that Southbridge Superintendent of Schools Eric Ely had applied for the position of superintendent of North Canton City Schools in Canton, Ohio.

On May 22nd The CantonRep reported that three finalists had been chosen for the position. Mr. Ely was not among those named for further consideration.

In a related matter The Times Union of Schenectady, NY did an article on May 1st summarizing Mr. Ely’s job hunting activities subsequent to leaving his position in that city.

  1. Thanks Ken,

I read the article. There were 7 posts at the end of the article. Here they are:

    1. I was taught growing up that if you had nothing good to say about someone to mind your tongue. The Sch’dy City School District had to agree, in Ely’s departure agreement, to only say nice things about him when asked.

When a prospective district calls Sch’dy for the scoop on Ely, the silence should say it all.

    2. That silence pact was only for the BOE and admins.

    3. The guy should be in jail for conspiracy…He should never be allowed to be in such a position of authority..He allowed all of that chaos to happen…Him and the School board..that let him fly off….

    4. Would it be o.k. to break into uncontrollable laughter when asked for a recommendation for Ely?

    5. Can’t we leave this guy alone already? He can’t be of anymore harm to us.

    6. To Firebrand at #5.

We are still recovering from the toxic environment he established. Many of the people he put into positions of authority, several of which should have been fired for there inappropriate behaviors, are still in place. The huge payout the district gave him should have been spent on the children of Schenectady. So yes he is still harming this community. Wake up!!!!

    7. Hey take it easy Steve. Just trying to live and let live is all. NO question about the severity of actions surrounding him. Just don’t see the point in continuing press coverage.

Wasn't Town Manager Chris Clark on the search committee for the Superintendent? Another testament to his fine HR skills. NOT!

    1. If you do your research you will see that the search committee was disbanded when Bill Bishop did not make it to the final interviews. Vice Chair Scott Lazo disbanded the committee and formed a new one. Once that was done, Bill Bishop became a finalist. There were four finalists all together, Bill Bishop, Barbara Cataldo, Eric Ely and Mark Wood. Town Manager Clark was NOT on this search committee.

At the end of the interviews these finalists were shadowed in their work environment, by school committee members. After this was done, Eric Ely's name was brought forward and voted on by the school committee. The rest is history.
