Republican Brags About Voter ID Law Winning the State of PA for Romney

Despite several years of Republicans promoting voter fraud as the basis for new voter ID Laws around the country, the truth has leaked out. Numerous non-partisan groups including the League of Women Voters and The Brennan Center for Law and Justice have repeatedly shown that the incidences of actual voter fraud are insignificant.

Rather than being a response to voter fraud it is widely recognized by many that such laws are an effort at voter suppression designed to disenfranchise traditionally Democratic voter groups such as the elderly, students and minorities.

Pennsylvania House Majority Leader Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) has now validated the view that the Republican dominated House’s end game in passing the new Pennsylvania Voter ID law was to benefit the GOP politically.

“We are focused on making sure that we meet our obligations that we’ve talked about for years,” said Turzai in a speech to committee members Saturday. He mentioned the law among a laundry list of accomplishments made by the GOP-run legislature.

“Pro-Second Amendment? The Castle Doctrine, it’s done. First pro-life legislation – abortion facility regulations – in 22 years, done. Voter ID, which is gonna allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania, done.”

  1. People love to talk about the "lack" of voter fraud, yet Spencer in 2000 had a recall election where not only were signatures forged, but well over 200 dead people voted. Ken it happens and could easily happen again, and asking to show an ID to vote is NOT a racist or a Republican agenda but rather making sure you are who you say you are when you vote. Ask Durant as he would know all about this since he ran the recall petition AND the recall election against three selectmen in 2000 when this happened in my town. You have to show your license for many reasons, and this one makes sense to me and could have avoided this going down in 2000 in Spencer. It happens, and could easily happen again. As the Chinese say, may you live in interesting times.

  5. This is the first time I have ever agreed with Bob Cirpa.

It's a well know fact that the LWV is and always has been a liberal group. It's about time they showed their true colors and stopped the act of trying to be fair and bipartisan.
