  2. Ken,

This is an outsiders POV, but I wanted to say something about the folks I have met in your town. I am glad to have gotten to know you folks.

I just got in from a Kathleen Walker meet and greet in Southbridge, and I am convinced that she is for real. She is a politico with a conscience which is something of an oxymoron. Can these two groups co-exist in the same body? Apparently so, and Kathleen showed it tonight to a full house at Fins and Tales. Explaining how she got into politics and explaining her passion for this race, I can only be hopeful for the area should she win this election. People with an idea who are not afraid to actually stand on principal are a rare breed indeed. Rather than show up for photo ops and talk the talk, she walks the walk. This woman has put her ass on the line personally and professionally throughout her career. You have to respect that when your job is on the line and you speak your piece anyway in spite of what people think. Who knows? Perhaps this will be a new idea for the State House, but bode very well for the citizens of this district. After the meet and greet we retired to the bar and I realized what I love about Southbridge. The people who live here have a real passion for their town that I can only wish Spencer had. There is a core of people who truly want to change their town, and they do everything they can to make that happen. From Dennis, Amelia, Ken, John, Demetri, Father Preble, Monica, Paul, Raciel, Kevin, Butch, and others, they make up the nucleus of what a town should be. Impassioned citizens trying to make a difference, and putting their thoughts into action to make a better environment for all involved. All have totally different personalities, yet bring a passion for their beliefs to the town and try and make all of this work. Because at the end of the day it is about different ideas. Maybe not all swimming in the same direction, but swimming none the less towards a common goal. That is what local politics is supposed to be about, and this is one embattled town, yet they never stop trying to change what is the current status quo. I respect that, and in any small town there is push back. That is the single thing that makes this work, the yin and yang of politics. My wife hates politics and is disillusioned, but I see the chance for change in every decision, and to all who try and change their towns for the better I applaud the effort, and say that I am glad to have gotten to know all of you.
