Hey Southbridge - Wanna Blog? Classic Site Available

Banned, blamed and belittled by some Speak Out Southbridge was for years the dominant public forum in Southbridge.

Creator and author of Speak Out Southbridge, Dennis Martinek has decided that his tenure in that role has come to its end.

Despite having discontinued actively blogging several months ago, the site still receives numerous hits from internet search engines.

So, in true free market spirit, Dennis is offering to sell this franchise marquee.

If you have thought about engaging actively in the public discourse, this may be your opportunity. The greatest challenge to any blogger is gaining an audience. If your unrealized passion is to have a public voice, here is a ready-made vehicle.

  6. Well, if it's a beauty contest, I have no chance. If it's based on the mere fact that people have lived here their entire lives, and that their families have roamed the streets of Southbridge since the time of Christ, I have no chance.

If the voters eventually wake up and realize that popularity contests don't result in electing the best people, perhaps one day I may have a chance. Not sour grapes, just the reality in Southbridge.

Nothing should be taken away from those that won, but, for the uninformed, you can see that the top four candidates had voters who provided "bullet" votes, in other words, voting for two candidates, not three.

That's everyone's prerogative, but speaking for myself, I encouraged people to vote for three. In hindsight, that may have been naive, but I thought it was important that people select three, not one or two.

Regardless, we have a new council. Next years election should be interesting. Will Conrad run? Will Butch run? Who knows.

Pam Regis will also be running. Keep the status quo, or not, but Southbridge had better find candidates with ideas and the gumption to do something. I appreciate the back-handed compliment that I was instrumental in helping the top two vote getters win, by stating what needed to be stated, while they could avoid direct answers on issues like the Town Manager.

However, as much as I'm happy for them, I didn't run for their benefit. I believed then, as I believe now, that people deserve to know where you stand BEFORE the election, not after. I know of several stances by the candidates that they were reluctant to state publicly, until they got elected, provided by those that were assisting them.

If this is what Southbridge voters want, I accept that.

But it's not how change is made.

Having said all of this, I hope for success, not failure, of this current council.

    Dennis
