They Laughed

Submitted by Paul Zotos

They laughed
They laughed at us
When we wanted to save
The whale
They laughed when we created
Earth day
They ridiculed us and called us
Tree huggers
They laughed at Al Gore for
Climate change and trying to
Save Polar Bears

Now they are gonna laugh at
Us for trying to Save Our Children
Trying to protect the most precious
Of beings on this fragile planet
Is our last chance to save Ourselves
Join me and the President
To a common sense approach to
Control Gun Violence  Now!

  1. And this is a great example why I (dare I suggest "so many of us"?) don't acknowledge the O'Zone as formidable... Entertainment value only!

Seriously, this is the best thing we have to consider these days? Please Mr. O'Brien, this used to be an interesting and engaging blog to explore.

  2. This country is incapable of having a reasoned discussion on this topic.

Here's an article that uses historical perspective to proprose that part of the reason for the 2nd Amendment's inclusion into the Constitution was in support of slavery: I can definitely see it. I have to imagine in the Old South you were always concerend about a potential slave revolt since there were more slaves than free white people, so having firearms at the ready and a need to pull together the militia to suppress a revolt would be necessary.

    1. Oh perhaps but there are other reasons as well.
      Mainly the Democratic party!

Battle of Athens (TN) 1946 !!

I wonder how many of you ever knew this happened.
Today, it would be a little harder to bring the same to fruition.

Battle of Athens (TN) 1946 !! I was completely unaware of this event that took place in Athens , TN in 1946. I did not know an armed revolt by WWII veterans ever took place during our lifetime. A very sobering video to say the least. Now it makes the second amendment a little clearer.

Be sure to see the actual photos at the end showing the plaques describing the event

    2. "A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government."

      ~ George Washington

    3. Ok. An event in 1946 explains why someone did something in the 1790s. Very good. And it was because of a political party that didn't exist at the time. Excellent stuff.

I reiterate, this country is incapable of having a reasoned discussion on this topic.

    4. George Washington once suggested:

"Individuals entering into society, must give up a share of liberty to preserve the rest. The magnitude of the sacrifice must depend as well on situation and circumstance, as on the object to be obtained."

as Vladimir Ilyich Lenin once observed:

"A system of licensing and registration is the perfect device to deny gun ownership to the bourgeoisie."

No matter what type of gun licensing restrictions are proposed; there will always be those who will bellyache about their rights as owners.

They'll zealously defend these rights on the premise that governmental abuse of power is a greater evil than that posed by individual hate-mongers or criminals.

    5. No, an event ( far different from a cocktail party or a sports game) in 1946 explains what was going on when the constitution was written and allowing language to prevent it in the future. Great foresight by them I must say.

The fact that you mock what happened in 1946 makes your point about a lack of reasonable discussion from the democratic side of the table.
You can't ignore history and the foresight to prevent it thats written into to the constitution.

    6. "Deception is a state of mind and the mind of the State"

~ James Jesus Angleton, Head of CIA Counter
      Intelligence 1954-1974

      Google/Bing: Operation Gladio

  3. I'm sure I would have a hard time to always find something to write about all the time.

  4. PLEEEEASE! The second ammendment is there to protect us from the federal government? What good is your rifle going to do if an F18 drops a bomb on your house? Maybe we should all be allowed to own anti-aircraft batteries. What a load of nonsense. The second ammendment is there to make sure the states can maintain a militia, period. I'm all for maintaining a well regulated militia if for no other reason than to keep guns out of the hands of nuts that think the federal government is going to attack them.
