  2. MS guidance counselor on PAL since last year
MS/HS Math dept head on PAL
The newly-created "Director of Operations" position was awarded, without any selection process to Roland Gaboury. He was on PAL last year when he was math coordinator. Of course Gaboury has bigger problems resulting from his arrest on Aug 31 in Spencer.

Great job girls! You and Buzz are just what the doctor ordered.

Southbridge elected McLaughlin, Donovan and Wood riff - you got what you deserved.

Not one decision has been in the best interest of the students; they have been ease-of-management & political paybacks.

Not only should the DESE not take the district off Level 4, they should take district over - NOW! But they won't because they are ass sorry as the leadership of the schools.

School choice your kids while you can!

  3. Did anyone really expect better schools with the chaos that was allowed to take place all year at our new school?

Watch the school committee meetings of the past 14 months. One would think that the schools were on their way to Ivy League status. McLaughlin, the self- appointed "know-it-all" and "Crocodile-tears" Donovan followed Principe and Woodriff like good little middle school girls.

What date shall I select for the day they resign? Remember Laliberte and Tarantino? History repeating itself.

  4. Woodruff is not the problem. A palace coup is in the works by the four newbies to depose her and let her take the blame.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Watch a meeting, Woodruff couldn't run a one room school house, never mind a declining school district.

The real problems are McLaughlin & Donovan.

    Time for recall elections!

  8. McLaughlin & Donovan voted to extend Ely's contract after being school committee members for less than 72 hours - brilliant. Oh that's right, he resigned after an extended PAL, an expensive investigation by Quincy Attorney Edward Doocey (report never released to public).
Bishop forced out for political payback and in came Tammy Perreault - terminated after extended PAL and another costly Doocey investigation.

  9. I don't recall seeing much on this site regarding the Ely & Perrault issues. Is that because the blogger is pals (not PAL - lol) with then-school committee member Principe?

    Selective blog postings?

    1. That's just plain untrue. This blog was the first to publish Goulet's criticism of Perreault as well as repeated material on Ely. Selective memory?

  10. Last year Grade 6 had a 49% failure rate in Math. This year Grade 7 (last year's Grade 6) had a 60% failure rate. I think there is a more fundamental issue than who is on the school committee - unless prior results were not truly reflective of reality for political reasons.

  11. SHS lost every math teacher this summer, nearly every science teacher and many, many more fine educators. Who would want to work in Southbridge? Who would want to send their children there?

With these losses in teachers and staff should we feel confident in improved MCAS results this year? The new principal ead the "Director of Instruction" for the district last year.

    OMG!

  12. If all this is true then the school committee should let the tax payers of this town know everything that is going on including PAL payments. If nothing happens then remember who to vote for in next election

    1. How about it Girls? Why not tell the taxpayers exactly how much $$$ has been paid, and continues to be paid for the endless PALs.
Should you opt to do the right thing and come clean you should also open the Doocey reports to the taxpayers who funded these investigations.
And while you're at it, how much have the taxpayers paid in law suits by people who have brought current and firmer school workers?
As a previous responder noted. " three things can not remain hidden . . . #3-the TRUTH!

    2. the Truth - legal fees have long been and are currently 60K over budget.
Yet another HS teacher put on pal in punishment for speaking out against the #2 guy who was: formerly put on PAL for sexual misconduct against the very same teacher speaking the truth and came forward, the guy is banned from the stock exchange but put in charge of our School finances. Considering the old business manager resignation how frightening is that! #2 recently oversaw getting the new math books three weeks late into the school year and with not enough copies to go around, who also just had a DUI in Spencer, but everything is just Hunky dory right BUZZ, right Girls! Way to protect the guilty and attack the VICTIM. Except for the double standards of pal-ing yet another teacher for unacceptable language this year but protecting an administrator for his sexual touching of multiple staff last year!
Buzz is a hypocrite for doing this. He is on record nationally for suspended a 1st grader for touching another student years ago but he continues to protect his own GOLF PARTNER ongoing . (Rotary club golf tournament last Wednesday among many other school day outings for the curious.)

Why are some SC meetings being held at the old HS and NOT BEING TELEVISED !!!! Things are being kept out of the public eye!
So much for ABC's Accountability, best practices and COMMUNICATION!
Want to see this power hungry group in action attend Tuesday 6 pm meeting in the George Parent room called by vice chair MCLAUGHLIN against SC policy rules to oust the chair and take over. What new crony do they have in mind to get politically appointed to change the dynamics of this hen house?

We haven't had a truthful School district in decades. This current one is NO BETTER than the previous ones. Buckle up tax payers its going to be another bumpy ride.
God help our children and our wallets.
These elected Newbies who think they know all are just as if not more dangerous than the Jack Jovan misled years.

    2. If they (the newbies) plan to depose Woodruff, they are going to have a hard time of it. Unlike the Town Council, the School Committee has no provisions that allow for the removal of the chairman.
Lacking that, they have to revert to Robert’s Rules. The only provisions in Robert’s Rules for the permanent replacement of the chairman fall under the heading, “Remedies Against Misconduct Or Dereliction Of Duty In Office”. For those means of removal to be employed there must be a specific charge or charges of “misconduct or neglect of duty in office”. I fail to see any such claims that might be trumped up holding any legal validity.

    3. Is it true that the district's #2 was arrested for a DUI on August 31?
Why hasn't The News reported this? They ran the Charlton Street all over the front page when he was arrested for DUI.

      Delete
    4. As an addendum to the note about Robert's Rules above:

RONR 11th edition has a new section in the chapter of “Discipline.” It is called “Removal of Presiding officer from Chair for all or part of a session.” It gives a way to temporarily replace the chair when he is not fulfilling his role when conducting a meeting. If the person presiding is a chairman pro tem, he can be removed by a motion to “declare the chair vacant and proceed to elect a new chairman.” RONR states that this is a “question of privilege affecting the assembly and is an incidental main motion requiring a majority vote for adoption.” The procedure is in the first footnote at the bottom of page 652.

If the presiding officer is the official officer, then the procedure is different. A member must make the motion to Suspend the Rules to take away his authority to preside during part or all of the meeting. A motion to suspend the rules can’t be made for future meetings at the present meeting. It would have to be made at each meeting the assembly wanted someone else to preside.

    5. To the person asking about the truthfulness of the Districts number two being arrested for DUI on AUG 31 - Unequivocally YES !
See Spencer New Leader newspaper of 9/13 page 18 -
Operating motor vehicle under influence of liquor, operating motor vehicle
negligently to endanger, driving with open container of alcohol while operating vehicle, town road stop sign violation.
While anyone can be arrested lets see him wiggle out of this charge being held in a very different type of court, judge and jury.

    5. Really clever comment.
Unfortunately those chickens won’t come home to roost until someone has the courage to stand up and do something.
If there is anything to these speculations (and I believe that there is) then, as I understand the RICO statutes, we could recoup some of what this may have cost us.
We could also clean out the chicken coop and start with a clean slate – something this town desperately needs.
But I think courage in politics is something that JFK wrote about as history, not something we’ll ever see again in the near future, especially in this town.

    1. I agree that they are getting lost in the midst of the politics.
However, I have to ask, would you put foster children in a home that exhibited these kinds of issues if you truly cared about their welfare?
If the school system has these issues, should you put your own children there for six or more hours a day?
And if that's the case, will anybody move to a town that exhibits this kind of turmoil?

      Delete
    2. The dept of child welfare service is just as dysfunctional as our school district. However there are still good CWS workers and good foster homes amongst all the dysfunction. The very same can be said about our school district. It all depends on placement and the willingness to shut out the power brokers and dysfunctional administrators and help your kid succeed. The real question is why we get stuck with such dysfunction in the first place? The best of the best already know not to come here and we are lucky to scrape the bottom and hope for the best. Would you come to work for a town that has such a bad reputation in its leadership? In its in pay? In it's school committee and administration being the cause of level 4 status?

How the hell does she chair this? This is crazy! This is the meeting to oust the chair, or at least prepare for the ousting which will take place at the regular meeting at 7 pm. What is Pat supposed to say? "I call this meeting to order, but I don't know why?”

    1. Woodriff has been calling sc meetings to order for 15 months and hasn't known why. So why would tonight be any different?

  20. There has actually been a request from one member of the gang of four to the chair that the next meeting (not tonight's but in two weeks) not be broadcast. Why don't they just meet in a former town councilor's basement?

    ReplyDelete
  21. What? More secret meetings? Time for the Attorney General to step in!

Looks like we have a severe case of voters remorse - 1450 people voted for McLaughlin & her patsy, Donovan. ( I hoped I spelled everything right, as that's about all Donovan is good for.)

  22. The last "TELEVISED" school committee meeting was evidence of all this drama. The true Chair, Woodrith properly wouldn't approve a motion to add an item to the agenda per MA open meeting laws. When the newbies insisted, a motion to ignore ma open meeting laws and add a agenda item that wasn't voted on in subcommittee was then made by Woodrith. She also said she would have no part of it and turned the gavel over to Mc-LAUGH-lin. to oversee this meeting violation. Tom O'Leary a known member of the flab four, but around meetings long enough to know the law, indirectly supported Woodrith by abstaining on the illegally added agenda item. THIS SPEAKS VOLUMES to whats really going on - Out of control, novice, power grabbing thats gone straight to their heads. The PTA will suffer long term because of their current actions and past/present association.

You allowed Ely to remove the high school principal and replace him with %#$/?.
How did that work for the students? She made it to Christmas - terminated after $$$$ PAL.

So what happens to the students who failed any part of the tests? THEY DON'T GET a DIPLOMA UNTIL THEY PASS EACH TEST.

Will the guidance counselor Mrs Hatch rembrr to provide these students with the do-over tests offered by the state? She "forgot" to do so last November 1 until mid-dsy - limiting the students' time. There's a candidate for a PAL.
