  1. Buzz and the Girls "Guaranteed Improvement" - NOTSeptember 19, 2014 at 11:47 AM

Truly disappointing! Grade 10 ELA scores show 76% of students meeting the mandatory level of "proficiency." That was the same percentage that students scored in 2012 when they were in the old school. Albeit, this 76% is higher than the 2013 rate 0f 71%.

Grade 10 Math scores show 51% meeting proficiency in 2012, and 45% in 2013 & 2014. Dreadful decline.

Science in Grade 10 showed improvement from 2012 to 2014; however the test has been modified to prevent the 6% of graduates not meeting the proficiency level statewide in 2012. I guess we might call it "dumbing down" the test.

Grade 8 shoes horrific declines in all three subject areas from 2012 to 2104!

Grade 6 & 7 mixed results, none very impressive.

Why compare 2012 to 2014? That was when we had the McLoughlin/Donovan "saviors" take over the school district. These girls "knew" how to fix things instantly! Take a $75 million dollar building and move from 2 principals to 1 principal 30 days prior to opening. Allow the infamous Eric Ely to appoint a non-certified person to run the school (she lasted 5 months). Why was Ely awarded a two year contract after three days on the job girls? Better yet, why don't you tell the people why he was put on PAL, ultimately resigning, in 5 months? I digress.

Bottom line, the girls have replaced almost EVERYONE in the district, far too many with Springfield misfits. You and Buzz have guaranteed that the MCAS scores would improve this year. Look at the red bar graph - have they really improved? NO!

But we will get the proverbial dog and pony show from Buzz, Gardner and the ever bulging central office, over-paid administrative "wizards." I can hear the BS flowing already and see the bobbleheads sitting there at the "dais" glowing with their belief that things are better than they were in 2012.

I hope there are plenty of fire extinguishers on hand . . . Gonna be lots of "pants of fire>"

  2. Former Superintendent Nembirkow "guaranteed" an improvement in MCAS scores. However, with the possible exception of Science, tech/eng Grade 10 (addressed by the previous poster), a chi square test shows that (statistically) the change in results over the four year span does not differ significantly from zero.

If anything, the only truly significant results show a downward trend for grades 7 and 8.

59 % of grade 8 students fail math MCAS test. That might very well be an all time record for any school in MA - ever!
