Let Me Show You How

  1. When I consider the nasty comments made by a former Town Council.Chair toward well meaning citizen's at Citizen's Forum the current SC Chair is an amateur.

  2. Maybe I'm getting old but I think this is over the line. Whatever problems the school committee has it doesn't come anywhere close to cold blooded murder. Humor like this makes it more difficult for people to find common ground and work together.

    1. I understand your view Rich.
However, IMHO, there's a point to be made that people were outraged and have stood up to the criminal acts in Paris.
Here in Southbridge the desired outcome has been achieved without murder but far more effectively.

    2. I'm with Rich on this one as well.

    3. Worth noting that I have nothing to say about the school committee has nothing to do with the fact that comparing the murder of people in France to the Southbridge School committee is in horrible taste. I have plenty to say about that. If you're going to try and tie something together, make sure you have two apples to compare...and if you had any guts whatsoever, you would say who you are. I know, you're "job" would be in jeopardy if you said who you are...the same old BS never ends with some people like you.

    4. Let me emphasize that I was not comparing the actions of murderers to the actions of the school committee. What I was comparing was the effectiveness of those actions in achieving their goals. Willful blindness to that fact is also a failure to compare apples to apples.

Hi Ken. I'm sure Dennis, like myself, is a South Park man so we don't do subtety very well. You strike me as a Monte Python man. When I see "Charlie Hebdo terrorist" I think murder not process. I'm not being willfully blind, I just don't get the humor.

If Dennis states that something is in horrible taste, or bad taste, and if he is the same Dennis that proudly boasted that his Blog was banned from the Town's website, certainly he is most qualified to determine what bad taste is.

    7. Unlike many in this town, I evolve, learn from my mistakes, and move on, and better myself. But there is some truth to what you say: I do know what bad taste is, and I've acknowledged, publicly, not hiding behind some fake name, what I believe I was right on and what I believe I was wrong on. Ironically, you were one of my followers and were terrific at stoking the fire when need be. The fact that I no longer share your approach or hatred for things? Well, I'll speak for myself and say that I am much happier now not worrying about all of the things in this town that are wrong. If that is viewed by you as a point of weakness, I can only feel sorry for you.

  3. I have to agree with Ken on this one.
The terrorists in France overplayed their hand and engendered a backlash against their aims as well as their tactics.
The school committee has twisted and perverted the rules and common sense to silence any criticism and has succeeded in quieting any opposition.
From a practical standpoint they are more effective than those who engaged in the horrible acts in Paris.

    1. They have been very successful hiding the errors of their ways. The June election will correct that.

    2. Year after year people blame the Principal, the Superintendent or the School Committee, but never the teachers. Despite all the changes in Leadership, the Leaders are still blamed.

Two years ago I followed that crowd in my thinking, but my nephews, both "problem students" with c minus averages were about to be kicked out with discipline issues, so we decided to spend the money to transport them west. Now they are B students, not one discipline issue, and one of their friends followed and now she is on the Honor Roll!

Are they grading easier west of here, are the teachers less strict? According to my nephews and their friends and I admit it is only the view of a few, the teachers at SMHS act like they are teaching in the 'hood, as if it is a reform school. The students feel as though they are often treated as if guilty of wrongdoing when there is very little wrongdoing.

Also, the children are not stupid, and are aware of the tensions between Adminstration and teachers.

Change the entire School Committee, get a new Superintendent AGAIN, get ANOTHER Principal, but nothing will change, even when there are new students in a few years.

  4. Where are the Winter Sports Schedules?January 13, 2015 at 1:03 AM

Really, how bad is our school district? Kara Donovan and Erin Quinney want us all to help.

I thought I might go out and support our high school's athletic teams at a basketball game this week. So I just went on the district website to see when and where any games are being played. Well, here are over half way through the winter sports season and the school website still displays only the fall sports schedules.

Don't we have a full time athletic director? Don't we have enough "administrative assistants?" And Brent tells us everyone is going to be held accountable. Perhaps the AD needs to spend less time in the principal's office and more time in her own office.

I know everyone is working "really, really hard." But come on, man!

    1. I think you nailed with "The AD needs to spend less time in the principal's office and more time in her own". She is just another lacky who I would bet a million dollars the principal would go to bat for and make up another fabulous fable to protect. Seriously can this district just scrap the whole middle high and start over?

    2. 1 School Not Working!January 17, 2015 at 5:24 PM

The school was studied, discussed and built as 2 separate schools. The two Rhodes Scholars, McLoughlin and Donovan voted, after two weeks on the school committee to create one school. How's that worked?
These two "grotesquely inept" fools have destroyed our school system.
But 1450 voters wanted change. I still can't find one of those 1450 voters!

Well it's even more apparent that the district spends more time reading this blog than doing their job. Miraculously the website was updated today. Maybe this blog should be the Superintendent!

  6. Dennis, I was never one of your followers, and your Blog was long gone before I got interested in Southbridge politics.

I'm not a hater, but I have heard about you in numerous circles and I am glad to hear that you have mellowed with age. I am not litigeous, I never made a scene in my Church, and I rather golf than Blog, never mind play guess the Blog comment Author.

  7. I have no idea what you are referring to, but yes, I do know who you are. One thing I learned long ago was to read certain styles and comments that people write, but since you don't want to say who you are, neither will I. In the the whole scheme of things it doesn't matter. I'm not litigious, I've never made a scene in church, and I'd rather do anything than waste time arguing on a blog.

    You enjoy your weekend.

  8. PS...no one would have to play "guess the blog comment author" if they had the courage of their convictions, and weren't hiding behind pseudonyms. That's part of what "mellowed" me, if you wish to use that term: people that in private didn't mind saying who they were, but not in public. And a "tell" is one where you reference alleged events that, by the way, happened before and during the active time of the blog, not after, but nice try. But as I've said before, I don't really care. I'm very happy to write my current blog for class, where people, if they say who they are, can converse in a professional and courteous manner. Ironically, only Rich Logan and I seem secure enough if what we say to stand behind it with our names here (aside from Ken, of course). I wonder why that is? Could be you hang out in the wrong circles (that's a joke, not sarcasm, for the sake of clarity).

  10. Why is the district website constantly wrong? This site lists a negotiations subcommittee scheduled for this past Tuesday at 6:30 PM. Apparently this meeting never happened, as a friend of mine went to the old high school and found no meeting.
Well the town hall bulletin board has has negotiation subcommittee meetings scheduled for tonight at 6:30 PM at the old school, and next Thursday at 1:00 PM.
My question, why can the district not keep their website current?
My second question is what are we negotiating? We are broke! Someone needs to tell Quinney and company to stop giving the farm away.
