Southbridge School Committee Meeting - October 20, 2015

  1. In an article in the T&G this morning, SC Chairman Lazo said that they had been "Blissed" meaning that their appointed savior Steve Bliss had left the building. However, what did they expect . . . that Bliss would hang upon the cross while the state comes in to take over the district. Who, in their right mind would want to be in that decision. At this point, it is a win win for Bliss. If the state takes over, their would have been nothing that he could have done. And, if it doesn't, the things he put in place in his short time of superintendent can be seen as the reason why they didn't. Either way, it is a plus on Bliss's resume.

  2. We have some hard working people in the district who will keep the momentum going. Curriculum work is being completed, learning walks are happening, agenda/objectives are being posted in every building each day, and most importantly staff are coming to work to make a difference in the lives of each child. Southbridge students deserve nothing but the best. In the next Superintendent, I want to see someone who sees each student as their own. I went to a meeting where the Superintendent of Worcester spoke, and she called the 26,000 kids in the district "her babies". This is what I want to see from the person selected to lead Southbridge Public Schools. I don't want someone to be here so that they can complete a doctorate, or to build a resume. Enough is enough. When I run in June, I want to make sure that this kind of work continues, and that we are setting and expecting high standards for all involved. It takes a village to raise a child. The work can't be done just by our teachers. Business owners, parents, aunts, uncles, elderly, all need to get involved if we want to make Southbridge Public the schools of choice.

    1. Are we going to do a search holding public interviews one at a time now?

    2. It is my understanding that the search for a Super will begin anew; this gentleman is only interested in being the Interim until a perm Super is selected....Search Comm was being contacted to see if members wanted to continue and the Search will begin....when applicants have been vetted there will then be public interviews.....
