  1. Item VIII. 1. So we add yet another body to the Central Office head count. Isn't austerity a wonderful concept?

  2. Perhaps you should hear what proposal is before you bash. An educational assistant is directly involved with student and not central office. Another bashing without knowing the facts

    1. The item says that the position is for the Department of Pupil Personnel Services. Is such an individual, in a level 3 position, expected to be capable of dealing with students at any level from K through 12?

  3. Since when is it “hate” or “bashing” to question the further expansion of central office. It has grown from 2 or 3 people fifteen years ago to almost twenty today. Every dollar that goes in there is sucked out of going into our kids education. I applaud drawing attention to this matter.

  4. I suspect that this will end up being just one more step in turning our schools into another social welfare agency. When will they get back to focusing on education and leave the student's home lives and problems to the parents and bunch of social welfare agencies already out there.

    1. A Parent-less SouthbridgeNovember 30, 2015 at 2:17 AM

Wow, you can't really be serious, can you?
There are no more parents. Well not many anyways. Only a parent, a grandparent, a foster parent, an adoptive parent, a parent in jail, a parent on crack, and so on. When home lives are this screwed up kids aren't focusing on education but more so just on survival.

DCF might as well have an office in Southbridge so they can cut down on their travel expenses to this town.
I have three questions I hope someone will answer. (school committee maybe?)

      1. What is the percentage of our students working with DCF? Is it over 50 %, over 60%, or even higher? Seriously School committee please answer that question.

DCF went before the Town Council pleading for foster parents in Southbridge. While they were eager to have them did you ever wonder why DCF wanted to go before the TC ? They want to place ours and more likely other towns kids here because we have all the services and high poverty needs to take them in and get paid as a foster parent working from home.

      2. How many children has DCF placed into our school system from elsewhere that we are now paying for, That we now own their MCAS scores and educational challenges, etc. ?

      3. How can one hand of the state expect us to improve while the other hand is using us to solve their problems?

  5. The Educational Assistant is not for Central Office. The position is to be in compliance with state and DOJ regulations. Perhaps there has been a new arrival to the district that requires such services. It might be a child in need of Special Ed, ELL, or 1-1.

    1. You are correct - req by state - new arrival - special needs - I believe requires 1 on 1 - and yes, state is placing kids from other towns here.
