Southbridge Town Council Agenda - February 22, 2016

Town Council Meeting

MacKinnon Council Chambers

February 22, 2016

7 PM

Just a note - The Town Charter says, "2-5-1: The council shall meet regularly at least twice in every month." Item 17 calls for the next meeting to be on March 7. Does anybody remember a meeting other than this one in February?

Any truth to the rumor that Mr. Montigney resigned both his job at the high school and as the station manager for cable access? If so, why?

The new TM is a pain in that place one sits, and looks out for the mountain makers on Barefoot Road above all else, because he believes what's good for that Company is good for Southbridge. Mr. M allows the resistance to put material on the cable channel, which causes the shight to roll.down from the above.

The kid is better off elsewhere. We are now known as the Sty of the Commonwealth, which can not be a career builder for someone eatly in his c reer, so if he found an opening in a,better place, which nowadays is ANY place, moving on is a wise move.

The kid had a nice way about him, very accessable. He probably does not appreciate the smsller cable committee either, but that is just a guess. Good Luck and happiness to him in his new workplace.

The little Birdie claims more department heads will.roll. With San Angelo, it is comply or die.

  4. My understanding is that the kid brought forth a solid proposal for the Town and the School. The manager who was away and incidentally did not attend the Bicentennial Ball put the kibosh on his proposal. I'm sure the school system is in a panic!

    1. Any idea what the propossl was? I am sure it was well considered and worthwhile.

The Town Manager tap dances all week long. You expect him to leave his lovely town to dance with his lowly subjects? Only if he is paid another $500 in daily tribute like the rest of the week.

Actually,I heard it was self-serving trying to justify why he should still be teaching at the SMHS when he has no teaching certifications or professional certifications to justify the job.

Actually, his proposal requests to takes himself out of the classroom, revealing that your Flying Rumors are mostly False.

  6. The way the Mass Teachers Ass. has it set up, John Lennon coukd not teach Music, Steve Jobs couldn't teach business, and Einstein coukd nit teach Physics because they are nit certified

Our town allows more lattitude, but with Boston running the show, we might lose our most effective popular teachers soon due to certification issues.

What's going to happen if the School gets even worse under Boston. Let me guess. A vote of even less confidence?

Me thinks you ave da horse afore the kart. SHS before Ely's demise and the reign of terror brought about by Buzz, Gardner, Allen, Gaboury and the gang was making progress. The SHS had progressed to a level 1 school and was off NEASC probation. The staff that was built and making progress are all but gone. Since then, the district has been in steady decline. So, don't blame it on the teacher's association or certification regulations.

In what other district would a person with no experience, certification, or professional licenses have been hired except for the fact that that person had family pull. Montigney is the type of individual who the woman was talking about who said that the district is filled with people who were hired because of who they know or to whom they are related.

The state is coming in and will clean out the rats nest of unqualified / uncertified people. Montigny was just trying to save his paycheck then reacted as if he was the only one who could do the job. In his delusion of self importance he is acting like a kid who doesn't like the way the game is going and taking his ball and going home.

Has anyone bothered to ask him why he did not take or pass the teacher's certification test? He has had plenty of time . . . 3 or 4 years. Has he taken any technology certification courses?

So, get offn yr hi horse n' and cast the blame for the failing of the district on the School Committee and the administrators that they hired and allowed to cripple the progress that was being made.

    1. Interesting. All I know is that the children like him.

Why leave the Cable position, too?
His Grandpa, who I hear was around during the Sesquintennial too and is old enough to remember Presideny Hoover, is up for three more years, tomotrrow night, yet the Council wl vote 7-0 in favor, because he knows where the proverbial bodies are, so the Council is no better than the old school comnittee.

  8. And tomorrow. night his Grandpa is up for three more years of employment, and he was old enough to retire even before Chris Clark. He was, around when Hoover was President.
The Council will vote in favor 7-0, so they are no different than the School Committee.
How does a family get the Town Hall franchise?

  9. The Sacred Cod might hang in Boston, but in more ways than one, the stench is somehow in Southbridge.

Chairman Moriarty knew what he was doing when he departed, and the problem must not have been him, because it still smells like someone pharted.

  10. Lurking, there never has been any reason to doubt O'Brien's facts, I can not remember him getting tbe facts wrong, although he may not always come to the ideal conclusions.

The overpaid Health Director is imminently qualified to serve as a building insoector. He is not encouraged to do anything about the problems related to the labdfill, so he has so much time on his hands that his focus is the Garbage Pail lid of someone that complains about heavy garbage truck traffic before 7 a.m.

Why does the Council need to give a three year contract to someone that should be enjoying his retirement? The Health Director already does building inspections and he as equally knowledgeable as the the current inspectir, who also knows the codes like a book.

The real problem is the way that Landfill money corrupts the way decisions are made. They act like we are Flint Michigan and that Vermont Company is General Motors. That money is used mostly for town employee pensions, uneccessary positions at Town Hall like enough qualified building inspectirs for a building boom, and lawyers fees(until limits were put on the Councils inquirues because two lady councilors asked enough questions to hire a second town manager). .

Why did the State put the Schools into recievership before Town Hall? Is the way they spent the landfill money ethical and on the up and up? Instead of pension funds, that money should have bought school books, landfill pollution filters, and an asthma clinic.
