There Is No Equivalence
Violence occurred on both sides in Charlottesville, so our
Pr*sident says. Therefore, in his view, both sides bear guilt for what happened.
My response is carefully considered and goes as follows:
Violence against the alt right can never go too far. These
are advocates of an ideology that brought us Auschwitz, Buchenwald and Dachau.
As our fathers and grandfathers before us found,
violence is necessary when confronted by this distillation of all that is
hateful. It is necessary because it is self-defense. It is not merely defense
of self; it is action in defense of all humanity.

A Democratic Agenda
The Democratic Party lacks a cohesive message encompassing a
strategic vision that captures the many disparate interests of its
constituency,
This was clear in the scattershot platform put forward by
Hillary Clinton in her Presidential campaign. Rather than having a driving
focus, it consisted of a laundry list of issues with no apparent central theme.
Despite the current chaos surrounding the Presidency of
Donald Trump, the core Republican agenda, while slowed, remains in force. It’s
key, two-pronged objective is the neutering of the Affordable Care Act and
so-called “tax reform”. Both are little more than a furthering of the same goal
they have pursued for over thirty-five years, the enhancement and entrenchment
of the interests of the wealthiest Americans at the expense of the vast
majority of citizens.
In order to oppose this trend Democrats must forcefully assert
that the fundamental role of government pertains to the distribution of wealth.

New Budget Substitutes Taxes For Landfill Revenue
Just as I have been predicting, the loss of revenues from
the landfill will fall squarely on the taxpayers of Southbridge
The budget
presentation for the next fiscal year proposes to eliminate $920,000 from
landfill revenues that the town relies upon to finance its operating budget.
And how is this accomplished? Simple –
Gross Increase at Projected Tax Levy for the next fiscal year increase by
$994,429.
At the same time, when adjusted for the increased tax rate,
the contribution from new growth is projected to decline by almost 20%.

A New Hat Trick
In 1969, as I was leaving High School and entering college, I was convinced that the country had passed from reality into a twisted version of the twilight zone.
After all, an Edsel was worth $100,000, the NY Mets had won the World Series and Richard Nixon was President.
In the intervening forty-eight years things gradually recovered some sense of normalcy following Nixon's resignation.
Until now that is.
As we enter 2017, a Cheeto that looks like the gorilla Harambe has sold for $100,000, the Chicago Cubs have won the World Series and Donald Trump is President.
I can only pray that history will continue to repeat itself.
