This designation as a chronically underperforming district will
result in the appointment of a receiver by Commissioner Mitchell Chester. In the meantime Chester will serve as interim receiver until a permanent choice is made, effective immediately.
The receiver will assume the responsibilities of the
superintendent as well as the school committee.

ReplyDeleteThe Telegram reports, "In an interview after the meeting, Southbridge School Committee Chairman Scott S. Lazo said the board would still hold its regular meeting Tuesday night to explain to the community how the district will move forward, as the community is owed as much. He said the committee will not vote on the two superintendent candidates, as the issue is now moot."

ReplyDeleteYes, it has been Ms Quinney's mission since BEFORE she was elected to the School Committee to have the State takeover (and her buddy Abrahamson as well);so one has to wonder how vigorously she acted, as a SC member to prevent it - NOT.
DeleteSchool Committee is an elected body and can not be 'disbanded' - they will just not have all the power they have had; meetings should be very short; seriously, they will required to work w/the Receiver - part of the process provides for an education of the SC as well as to what their duties/responsibiities - and are not.
Actually you're wrong. The school committee now has precisely ZERO power.

I am very curious how, or if, a School.Committee could or would function under recievership.
ReplyDeletePeople are still blaming various SC members past and present, but the Town Council should share whatever blame is due, but they are getting off as if they are blameless. If this is the case, it is time to stop blaming each other, and watch the State put Humpty back together If they do it eithout more money, they are miracle workers.We need text books, a dizen social workers, and more Spanish speaking teachers OR translators.
