Last night the Town Council’s DPW subcommittee took a major step toward financial sanity.

The second item on the agenda for the meeting read as follows:
“Vote to accept the agreement between the Town of Southbridge and Allan F. DiPietro Masonry for concrete masonry work at various locations in an amount not to exceed $20,000.00. Funding to come from Water & Sewer and DPW current budget accounts.”

Former Town Council Chairman and current subcommittee citizen member Steve Lazo saw fit to question the item.

Breaking News: DPW Subcommittee Votes For Another Backhoe

The DPW subcommittee voted tonight to recommend that the town purchase another backhoe, following the approval by the town council at its last meeting to approve purchase of one.

The subcommittee agenda item approved an expenditure of $121,000 for this purchase.

The opinion expressed by those close to the matter was that the sewer department felt that it did not have adequate access to the backhoe already approved and it needed one of its own.
