The Colbert Report Is Gone But Truthiness Lives On

I used to say that you are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts.

I have come to realize, however, that such an observation is no longer valid.

Whether on a national or local level, what pass for facts are entirely a function of the purveyor of information and the decibel level provided by their supporters.

We live in the age of truthiness, a concept introduced by Stephen Colbert in the first episode of his show “The Colbert Report”.

South Carolina Voters Favor Stephen Colbert For Senate

Public Policy Polling, which had the best record in forecasting 2012 election results, has released a new poll showing that South Carolina voters favor Comedy Central host and South Carolina native Stephen Colbert to replace departing Senator Jim DeMint.

DeMint, reportedly the lowest net worth member of the Senate, as well as among the most conservative, announced he will resign from the Senate to head up The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank. His predecessor was paid in excess of $1 million last year.

Sullivan is a former editor of The New Republic and the author of five books. He is perhaps best known as the author and editor of his blog, The Dish, which mainly focuses on political issues.
