People Versus The Machine In Southbridge

Ken O’Brien

On February 29 a hearing was held before the Joint Committee on Municipalities and Regional Government on H. 3900.

This bill would authorize the Town of Southbridge to place on the June ballot the changes to the town Home Rule Charter approved by the Southbridge Town Council.

At that hearing State Representative Peter Durant appeared in support of the bill.

Opposing the legislation were town councilor Laurent McDonald former Chairman of the Charter Review Committee and citizens Raciel Fernandez, Amelia Peloquin and John Pulawski.

Mr. Fernandez recorded the proceedings and has posted them to his YouTube site.

Here is his video of those proceedings.

  1. Gee what a shock that Pete supported this legislation. He has long been a supporter of Clemence and the regime in Southbridge, and is simply paying back the kids for all their ardent support in his campaign last year. Perhaps they should ask Pete about the support the businesses in Spencer got in 06 when he and his Selectmen cronies tried to keep local businesses in Spencer from advertising what they sold in their stores. There agenda was for owners of businesses to NOT be able to hang banners in their store windows, or even signs depicting what they were selling through a new sign bylaw legislation. That Pete is a friend to every politico in the system but not what is in the best interest of the voters or business owners. Ask Peter about that next time you see him. You have to love the way the machine works in this state. Quid Pro Quo.
