Isn't it too late for this election? Can we elect a third person or will there be an appointment?
ReplyDeleteHis replacement will be elected in this election.
DeleteI question that.
DeleteSECTION 2 - VACANCIES
Delete3-2-1: Vacancies in the elected town boards established under this charter shall be filled by the town council in joint convention with the remaining members of the respective board within sixty days unless a regular town election shall occur within one hundred and twenty days, but only until the next town election.
The above is from the town charter.
DeleteMore legal bills! Thanks !
ReplyDeleteWhy? We may have to reprint the ballots if they've already been printed, but what expenses other than that?
DeleteSo how about the absentee ballots?
ReplyDeleteLikelihood is that they won't affect the outcome, but I'll leave that to the Secretary of State to decide. There's still three weeks. But I still don't see any legal costs associated with that.
DeleteTradition and recycling candidates leads to the same dead end road we've been stuck on.
ReplyDeleteRobert Frost knew better.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Metaphorically speaking, someone who takes 'the road less traveled' is acting independently, freeing themselves from the conformity of others (who choose to take 'the road more often traveled'), generally making their own choices, and perhaps leaving a new trail that will become the road more often traveled (until, of course, someone takes the road less traveled from there, and happens upon something even better than the first improvement; in that way, the cycle always repeats itself everywhere else but in Southbridge.
Let's see a new responsible face with strong back bone and the ability to call out Political BS when it appears from the recycled candidates that are so much more likely to win because this dolt quit when he couldn't have his way. .
I foresee the Secretary of State saying that the election is too close to allow for the administrative tasks of reprinting the ballots. The idea that the absentee voters' ballots won't make a difference is ludicrous. With turn outs historically low in this community every vote has the potential of being the decider.
ReplyDeleteAlso, there may be lawsuits by individual who would have taken papers out and ran if it were known that there was another spot on the school committee open.
In the long run, I hope this era of vendetta is over and we can get down to hard work, cool reasoning, and partnership with all the stakeholders to move this district forward.
The School money is still paying off two year old legal & unemployment fees, resulting in a cut in school services, and a Councilor shouted out F you AND flipped the bird last week.
ReplyDeleteCall it hard ball, call it soft ball, I disagree. It is not supposed to be a game! That 'death spiral' talk and vote of no confidence made the Town look as bad as our schools, and I know of at least one real estate deal that was broken over the action by the Council.
It us as if the Council is acting intentionally outrageous to force the State to put us in receivership.
One does not have to admire Brent to realize why he or any other elected official would refuse to remain and play.
Apple should be forced to resign so we can get fresh faces on the Council. If a Policeman or Fireman behaved like Apple, he'd be fired!
Mr. Paicos is outraged by Fireman Lamica speaking in a civil manner from the Podium, but you won't hear a peeeeep from Paicos about Apple disturbing the Peace in Town Hall.
John Gatti was assaulted by Ron Chernisky in Town Hall when Ron was Chairman and nothing was done then, either.
Bullyocrisy- a Southbridge tradition.
If it is true that it is too late to elect an extra SC member, and that the Council will select the replacement, can Brent unresign? Of course not! If you question the Bullyocrisy, tell will send Officer Ritchie to remove an elected Official AGAIN.
