Don’t Buy Netanyahu’s Iran Scare

Yesterday afternoon I wrote the following as a comment in regard to another post:

Netanyahu’s warhawk blustering is understandable to anyone who follows Israeli internal politics. Following the erosion of his coalition government he rushed through a series of austerity measures that, as Agency France Press reported in August, caused “Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's popularity [to] [plummet] to its lowest point since his election in 2009 after he pushed through a series of tough austerity measures, a poll showed yesterday.

Platform Posturing

When your opponent is shooting himself in the foot, you don’t help him.

That was exactly my reaction when I heard about all this right wing high-fiving about the Democratic Convention changing the language in their platform.

Overnight the Republican smear machine launched a campaign about the absence of the word “God” and the reference to Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel from their platform.

Well it’s been another interesting week in Southbridge.

It began with some fractures showing up in the not-so-thin blue line of the Southbridge Police Department.

That was quickly followed up by a post Fourth of July round of fireworks from the Southbridge school system. First there was the M-80 set off that heralded the announcement that current Southbridge High Principal William Bishop would not be appointed principal of the new Middle/High School. 

Iran Bluster and Gas Prices

Republican Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has taken two contradictory positions on two critical issues. One is in the area of domestic energy prices and the other is in the area of foreign policy.

Gingrich has recently promised that under his Presidency he would return America to $2.50 per gallon gasoline.

On the other hand he has pledged to participate in a joint military action with Israel to prevent Iran from gaining a nuclear capability.

A recent report by the Council on Foreign Relations demonstrates the total inconsistency of these two positions.
