Last night the existing School Committee met,
presumably for the last time, prior to next Tuesday’s town election.
Following a predictably tearful farewell from the
current Chair following a period of turmoil and failure unseen in recent
memory, the Committee went into Executive Session.
However, when the
committee returned from Executive Session, it voted on only one item – item D,
the ratification of the memorandum of agreement with SEIU local 888.
This leaves open to
question what the plan is for dealing with the future of acting Superintendent
of Schools Sheryl Stanton.
The Committee failed to
either affirm the vote to extend her contract or to approve a contract for an
additional year of service.
Also, the Committee
failed to approve the presentation requesting new athletic positions for the
2015-16 school year.
Barring an unexpected
meeting of the Committee prior to July 1st, it looks as though Ms. Stanton’s
future is up in the air pending the election of a new School Committee.
