Poll Results Are In

Martinek, Fontaine and Moriarty Favored
Ken O’Brien
131 of you participated in our preference poll for candidates for Southbridge Town Council. That’s about 10% of the turnout in the last town election. While not a representative sample of the overall Southbridge electorate, it nevertheless is indicative of a strong base of support for the candidates who finished among the top three by a wide margin over the remaining nine prospects suggested by O’Zone readers.
Dennis Martinek gained the most votes with 66, followed closely by Gary Fontaine with 62 and Shaun Moriarty with 59.
Fourth and fifth places were held by Rich Logan with 38 votes and Amelia Peloquin with 21. It is important to note that both commented on the post announcing the poll that they would not be able to seek election to the council at this time due to overriding personal commitments.
It is worth pointing out that participants demonstrated a refreshing conformity with the guidelines. Each voter was requested to vote for no more than three candidates. The final result indicates that the average for each who participated was about 2.5 votes cast.
It is also a fair assumption that the vast number of those who participated abided by the request that they only vote if they were a qualified Southbridge resident. The number who voted was less than half of the total who visited the article itself.
Finally, the blogspot software prevents anyone but the most devious from casting more than one set of votes.
The total results for the poll were as follows:
Of the three prospects preferred by you, only Shaun Moriarty has announced his candidacy for the position of Southbridge town councilor.
If you are really committed to seeking change in the way Southbridge is being run, then it is now up to you to act.
Contact your preferred candidate and show your support. Volunteer some of your time and, if possible, offer to contribute some financial support. At a minimum a respectable campaign for this position can cost between $1,500 and $2,000.

I am impressed with the level of professionalism this candidate for Southbridge Town Council brings to Southbridge politics.

Shaun Moriarty is a polished and deserving candidate. Check out his Website and you'll see why. I hope you vote for him. He clearly has a vision! He's honest. He has the best interest of the people in his mind and his heart. That is the key. After all, it is the people that define the town. Not its government. Not its administration. Not its borders, nor its buildings. It's all about people and their needs.

Southbridge needs more people of his caliber serving on Town Boards, Commissions, and Committees.

  2. This is all good and such, but the question remains: will the people who want change belly up and financially support them? My guess is no, but we shall see.
